California Fire Map, Update as Glass Fire Grows by 10,000 Acres, Zogg Fire Doubles

Firefighters responded to 19 new wildfires in California on Tuesday, as "critical fire weather continued to fan multiple fast-moving wildfires," according to the latest report Tuesday by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).

There are 27 major wildfires burning across the state, including the Zogg Fire in Shasta County, which nearly doubled from Monday to over 50,000 acres by Tuesday. The Glass Fire in Napa and Sonoma counties has grown by 10,000 acres since Monday to over 46,000 acres, according to Cal Fire's latest report Tuesday.

"2020 has seen significantly more fires & acres burned than experienced in 2019 or even over the 5-year average. CA [has] broken almost every record there is to break, & continue to see increased wildfire activity," Cal Fire noted in a post Tuesday on its official Twitter account.

A Red Flag Warning remains in place for parts of southern California due to critical fire weather, Cal Fire noted in a post Tuesday on Twitter.

More than 8,100 wildfires have burned over 3.8 million acres in California this year, with 29 deaths reported since August 15 when the state saw increased fire activity.

Here are updates on some of the latest major fires across the state.

Glass Fire

• Location: Napa and Sonoma counties
• Acres: 46,600.
• Containment: 2 percent.
• Structures threatened: 22,310

"Changing winds led to some areas of increased fire activity...aircraft operations were inhibited by smoky conditions and poor visibility. Hot dry weather is anticipated over the next several days," Cal Fire noted in its latest report Tuesday.

In Napa County, the evacuation warning for all areas west of SR29/128 (Foothill Boulevard) to the county line between Diamond Mountain Road and Petrified Forest Road has been upgraded to an evacuation order.

Evacuation warnings have been issued for the areas west of Highway 128 (Foothill Boulevard) to the county line and north of Petrified Forest Road to the county line in Napa County.

Zogg Fire

• Location: Shasta County.
• Acres: 50,102.
• Containment: 0 percent.
• Fatalities: 3.
• Structures threatened: 1,538

The Zogg Fire continued to burn Tuesday in grass, oak woodland, chaparral and mixed timber. Firefighters' efforts were challenged by hot and dry weather conditions, as they continued to "work aggressively in steep and rugged terrain while working towards obtaining containment lines on the fire perimeter," Cal Fire noted Tuesday.

Evacuation orders and road closures have been issued for multiple parts of Shasta and Tehama counties, while an evacuation warning is in place in Zones C-1, C-2, E, F-1, F-2, E and G of Tehama County.

Bobcat Fire

• Location: Los Angeles County.
• Acres: 114,202.
• Containment: 62 percent.

The Bobcat Fire continued to see "mainly smoldering and creeping where heat exists within containment lines," and is expected to remain mostly within its existing footprint, according to the latest report Wednesday by the Incident Information System of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG).

Minimal fire growth is projected but an interior island northeast of Mount Wilson will continue to consume fuels. A heat advisory has been extended through 8 p.m. local time Friday for the San Gabriel Mountains and surrounding areas, the report noted.

August Complex Fire

• Location: Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, Lake counties.
• Acres: 938,044.
• Containment: 43 percent.

The August Complex Fire is split across three zones—North, South and West. The West Zone of the fire is at 116,759 acres, with 65 percent contained, Cal Fire confirmed in its latest report Tuesday.

The August Complex Fire continued to "burn actively through the night with flanking, backing down slopes, and isolated tree torching," Cal Fire noted Tuesday.

Structures and power line infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed by the wind-driven fire over the past few days. Hot spots, falling trees, impassable roads and several other hazards remain, Cal Fire warned.

"Smoke is expected to move back into the area over the next several days with a strong low-pressure system building over northern California.

"Lighter winds and shade from the smoke is anticipated to moderate fire behavior, but fire danger is still extreme. Dry fuels and winds can carry fire quickly. The winds are expected to shift to a flow from the north to northwest today [Tuesday], which will push the fire generally toward the southeast. However, the terrain can also funnel winds, shifting wind direction," Cal Fire said.

Evacuation orders, warnings and road closures are in effect across multiple parts of Mendocino, Trinity and Lake counties, while an evacuation warning is in place in Zone HA of Humboldt County, in areas east of Bell Springs Road to the Trinity County line and south of Pipe Creek to the Mendocino County line.

Creek Fire

• Location: Fresno and Madera counties.
• Acres: 305,240.
• Containment: 44 percent.
• Structures threatened: 4,576.

The fire in the North Zone progressed "throughout the night by surface creeping until encountering receptive fuel beds, where it flared or torched," according to the latest report Tuesday by the NWCG.

"Diurnal winds and low humidity will keep hot areas alive [in the North Zone] which could be fanned into a short flare up, especially in areas where smoke clears off during the day...these potential flare ups could occur most anywhere along the fire perimeter where there are available fuels adjacent to persistent hot spots," the report said.

Fueled by easterly winds, the fire in the South Zone also burned actively through the night in the northern region. The northern portion of the blaze is expected to resume burning to the south of Mount Tom and progress towards Florence Lake and the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness. "The rest of the fire [in the South Zone] will continue to smolder in the heavy fuels," the NWCG report noted.

SQF Complex Fire

• Location: Tulare County.
• Acres: 152,169.
• Containment: 58 percent.

Minimal fire spread was reported in the North and South zones of the SQF Complex Fire, which includes the Castle and Shotgun fires, the latest report Tuesday by the NWCG confirmed.

"Containment increased in the northern and southern portions with the fire showing little activity and movement yesterday [Monday] and overnight. The primary objective continues to be full perimeter control. This fire continues to be under a full suppression strategy," the report said.

Some fire growth is expected for the West Zone of the Castle Fire, while limited fire spread is expected for the East Zone of the Castle Fire and minimal fire growth is projected for the Shotgun Fire, the NWCG noted.

• Slater/Devil Fires in Siskiyou County: 154,145 acres; 45 percent contained.

• Dolan Fire in Monterey County: 124,924 acres; 85 percent contained.
• Slink Fire in Mono County: 26,759 acres; 86 percent contained
